Privacy Policy

This policy describes EconByte version 1.1.5 and later.

The short version

Dudley Development, LLC operates EconByte, a free economics-education app supported by ads, optional one-time purchases and an optional Pro subscription. There are no accounts. Your streak, progress and bookmarks stay on your device. When you first open the app, Apple asks whether EconByte may track you: your answer decides whether ads can be personalized and, unless you choose otherwise in Settings, whether anonymous usage analytics and crash reports are sent.

What stays on your device

  • Your streak, daily-set progress, course progress and bookmarks.
  • Your reminder time and your analytics and crash-report choices.
  • Recent Daily Briefs you have opened (up to 30), cached for offline reading.
  • Counters the app uses to space out ads and review requests.

We do not receive any of this. Deleting the app removes its local data; App Store purchase records stay with Apple so purchases can be restored.

When you first open the app

After the short studio animation, the app shows Apple's standard prompts, with no screen of our own in front of them:

  • Tracking (App Tracking Transparency). No ad is requested until you answer. If you choose Allow, ads may be personalized (see Advertising) and usage analytics and crash reports are switched on. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, ads stay non-personalized and analytics and crash reports stay off. If you already made an analytics choice in an earlier version, that choice is kept. You can change either switch in Settings at any time.
  • Notifications. Used only for an optional daily reminder (7:00 p.m. by default), scheduled on your device. No push server is involved.

Usage analytics (PostHog)

Off unless you allow tracking or turn on Usage analytics in Settings. When on, the app sends a fixed list of anonymous product events, such as app opened, a card or lesson completed, a bookmark, a paywall view or a purchase outcome, with counts and durations bucketed. Card content, your bookmarks, exact times, prices and transaction IDs are never sent. Events are tied to PostHog's own random per-install ID, not to a device or advertising identifier. Settings shows that ID so you can quote it in a deletion request, and turning analytics off deletes the analytics data stored on your device.

Crash reports (Sentry)

Off unless you allow tracking or turn on Crash reports in Settings. When on and the app crashes, Sentry receives the stack trace and a few coarse technical tags. No user profile, screenshots, view hierarchy or network breadcrumbs are included. Sentry's servers may derive a coarse location (such as a city) from the connection.

Daily Brief

When you open or refresh the News tab, the app downloads the day's brief from our server (econbyte-brief-production.up.railway.app). The request carries no account, identifier or other information about you; like any web request, the server sees the connecting IP address.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version shows banners on Home, Browse and while reading cards, and may show a full-screen ad when you leave the set-complete screen (at most twice a day). Ads never appear in the Brief, search, bookmarks, lessons and quizzes, purchase screens or Settings, and never for Remove Ads or Pro members. Ads are served by Google AdMob and, through AdMob mediation, partner networks such as Meta Audience Network.

  • Ads are personalized only if you chose Allow at the tracking prompt and your region is known to be outside the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Otherwise every request is non-personalized with restricted data processing.
  • No ads are requested at all in the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland. If your region cannot be determined, ads are non-personalized.
  • Change your tracking answer any time with Settings > Privacy > Manage tracking in the app, or in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. This is also how to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under US state privacy laws.
  • Google and its partners may process device, coarse location, ad-interaction and diagnostic information to provide and measure ads. Purchases and Pro

EconByte offers one-time purchases (Unlock All core topics, Remove Ads, six topic packs and an All Packs bundle) and an auto-renewing Pro subscription, monthly or annual, which unlocks all topics and packs, the full Daily Brief, and removes ads. An eligible first-time subscriber may be offered a free trial on the annual plan; the offer, if any, is shown before you subscribe. Subscriptions renew until canceled in your Apple ID's subscription settings. Apple processes payment through StoreKit; we never see your payment details. Purchases can be restored from Settings on any device signed in to the same Apple ID.

Used to track you

Only if you allow tracking: Google AdMob and its mediation partners may then use your device's advertising identifier and ad-interaction data to personalize and measure ads across other companies' apps and websites. If you decline, nothing is used to track you. The app's own analytics and crash reports are never used to track you or linked to your identity. We do not sell your personal data.

Children

EconByte is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. There are no accounts, profiles or in-app messaging.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated date above.
