What is EconByte: Daily Economics?
EconByte is a free iPhone app that explains economics in bite-sized daily cards — plain-language, real-world, and designed to be read in 90 seconds. Swipe through 5–10 cards a day on inflation, interest rates, GDP, trade, and 16 other topics. Every card has a concept on the front and a real-world example on the back. Build a streak. Actually understand what the Fed is doing and why it matters to your wallet.
For educational purposes only — not financial or investment advice.
How EconByte works
- Open to Today’s Daily Set — a fresh selection of 5–10 cards you haven’t seen recently.
- Swipe through cards. Each card has a plain-language concept on the front. Tap to flip and see a real-world example with a real number: “When the Fed raised rates to 5.25% in 2023, your grocery bill felt it — $100 in 2020 buys ~$85 of goods today.”
- Build your streak. See 3 cards in a day = streak credited. The app can remind you at 7pm if you’re at risk of breaking it.
- Browse Topics any time. The 20-topic grid is always available — not gated by the daily set. Go deep on Inflation, then jump to Trade & Tariffs.
- Bookmark and review. Long-press any card to save it. Open Bookmarks → Review Saved to run through your saved cards.
All 150 cards are bundled in the app — no account, no internet, no server required.
What you’ll learn
EconByte covers 20 economic topics, each with 7–8 cards:
Core concepts: Inflation · Interest Rates · GDP · Supply & Demand · Labor Markets
Policy and institutions: Central Banks · Monetary Policy · Fiscal Policy · Debt & Deficits · Taxes
Markets and the world: Stock Markets · Exchange Rates · Trade & Tariffs · Housing Market · Global Economy
Economic conditions: Recessions · Unemployment · Consumer Spending · Economic Indicators · Economic History
Every card ends with a source citation (Federal Reserve FRED, Brookings Institution, Bureau of Labor Statistics, World Bank). All cards include the disclaimer: For educational purposes only — not financial or investment advice.
Why EconByte?
Most economics education is a textbook or a podcast you never finish. EconByte is the version that fits in the time between two subway stops: one concept, one example, one number you’ll actually remember. It’s not trying to make you an economist. It’s trying to make you the person at the table who understands what the Fed rate decision means for their mortgage.
